The cube of responsibility

This was our first idea/approach. We wanted to create a sculpture. We had not decided whether it would have been an interactive game or something iconic for the city but we wanted to be something that would remind and teach the next generation of our catastrophic footprint on the planet. We wanted to create something that would gradually change behavior by affecting the senses of the people that see and visit. Here is the idea, explained. However, the idea did not work out the way we wanted. It seemed that it was not strong enough to create a wave of change for the citizens. We also found out that during previous years a similar idea had been proposed...

The cube of responsibility

An alternative approach
Facts
     The built environment:
40% of the world’s total energy consumption
40% of the global raw stone, gravel and sand,
25% of virgin wood and 16% of the water

Food for thought:

Do cities use energy? Or people? Or maybe people cause cities to use energy?
Do you think that we need more buildings? More infrastructure?

Is it our need for shelter that drives this increase in construction or is it our way of life?

Current recommended space standards m2
5 person house 92
space/person 18.4
2 person house 42
space/ person 21
actual ave occup/household 2.14

Microcompact House 2.66m2/person

We think that… we are just HUNGRY and SELFISH creatures!
 Metaphorically

… and literally!

So? What s the solution?
Hmmm… Maybe… What if WE changed instead of the city?
And then what? Well, probably the city will gradually change too!

Then, we need an incentive! A positive one? Or a threat? Something that will affect our senses?

Sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch

Waste-a major sustainability indicator

People will simply throw them away and never see them again!

Then, let’s put it in the city, in the most central spot! J
